Thailand's excise tax agency under the Ministry of Finance, which collects the tax on cars and was told by the Cabinet on 3 November 2026 to negotiate special EV tax rates with carmakers that build in Thailand.
The proposal has not been approved and nobody can apply yet. Old cars would be scrapped, buyers of xEV pickups could get a Government Savings Bank loan at up to 5%, and the proposed payments start in January 2027.
Imported battery EVs go from 10% and range-extender EVs from 15%, while EVs made in Thailand stay at 2%. One Chinese carmaker executive expects some models to cost up to 10% more.
